Independent & Thunder are top tier. It's a different turn, Indy are slower more carvy Thunder are quicker more sharp. I think of it this way. Independent losest tranny/bowls , Thunder lose to mid tight Street, Venture mid tight to tight Tech ledges. But for me the best all around is INDEPENDENT nothing like that turn and grind.Play arcade when you have a stock vehicle. You will get modification xp at a higher rate, and the less time without repair kit and fire extinguisher, the better, plus, a destroyed module will still work in arcade. The radar is probably having an issue because the ground behind the plane is masking it. A lot of older planes have that issue. The missiles are heat seeking and there isn't enough heat on the front of your target until it blew up. I haven't used that plane, but from experience with others I'm guessing that's the problem.
